'The Serpentine Standard' was inspired by an obscure 60s scientific journal about lunar topography. The track itself begun life as a slow drone, but evolved into something more rhythmic and percussive, as Skelton became immersed in the imagery of volcanism, 'meteoric scars' and 'impact craters'. The resulting five-and-a-half minutes of pulsing synths and jagged textures is an outlier in Skelton's oeuvre, but perhaps points towards a new direction in 2022.
